St. Junious set to be tried for homicide this week, six years after deadly stabbing in La Crosse

A jury is scheduled to be chosen Monday in La Crosse, for the trial in a local homicide case that happened before the COVID pandemic, and during Donald Trump’s first term as president. Anquin St. Junious was arrested for allegedly stabbing another man during a fight inside a taxi. Virgil Stewart was killed during the first week of 2019, inside the cab that was parked on 7th Street in La Crosse.

St. Junious was scheduled to travel from Illinois to La Crosse over this past weekend, to be present in court Monday morning for the trial. Judge Ramona Gonzalez has set aside a full week for the court case, with testimony expected to begin Monday afternoon.
The trial has been delayed several times in the past, partly because of the difficulty in finding an attorney for St. Junious. The defendant rejected a final offer for a plea agreement during a pre-trial hearing on Friday.
