Healthy brain workouts with La Crosse dementia care specialist Kamrowski

There’s nothing like a good brain workout. ‘What’s that?’ you ask. Well, dementia care specialist Becky Kamrowski stopped in the WIZM studio for La Crosse Talk to tell us.
La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.
She’s part of La Crosse County’s Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), which has deemed June as Brain Health & Dementia Awareness Month.
Kamrowski talks about just what all that means and some of the programs they’ll be promoting throughout the month.
Nationally, June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, but Kamrowski said they wanted to generalize the topic to make it more inclusive.
With brain health — where there are controllable and uncontrollable factors — we talk about ways to improve it.
We also hit on why this stat is rising: An estimated 2,800 individuals are living with dementia in La Crosse County — a number projected to rise to 4,000 by 2040.
Kamrowski is now one of two specialists in this field with the county, as they have seen the number of people requesting help hit 170 referrals last year — a number that’s doubled from two years ago..
