The Donald Trump-Elon Musk breakup is underway, and UW-La Crosse political science professor Dr. Anthony Chergosky was in studio Friday for La Crosse Talk to explain why Wisconsin could to blame.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

Before diving too deep into this, though, we kicked things off with What’s (still) Buried on Brad’s Desk — WIZM’s Brad Williams’ daily feature — who was forced to clean said desk this week, and we really uncovered some decades-old items.

Some things, however, remain missing, like a Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cassette tape from his 1986 visit to UW-La Crosse and a 2004 recording of Sharon Stone during a visit to the city shortly after Basic Instinct came out.

We then got into state politics, starting with the growing rift between Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and Republican legislative leaders. Their rare budget talks that happened in person — which happen so rarely they made news — have now fallen apart.

Sticking with the state Legislature, we looked at several bills under debate, including limits on what qualifies as a therapy pet, benefit changes for gig workers — like DoorDash drivers — and a proposal to mandate 20 hours of early voting.

The show wrapped with the escalating Trump-Musk feud — from impeachment talk and Epstein allegations to threats of cutting off federal funding for Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink — and why the Dairyland may have been the beginning of the end.

Sadly, Elon Musk is the hero in this scenario. President Trump campaigned on reducing the deficit and cutting the ridiculous COVID spending. Why is Elon Musk the enemy for calling out his lies and corruption?
