You can now buy cat scratching posts made from rugs collected earlier this year as part of trip-hazard prevention program.

The La Crosse Fire Department and Emplify Health by Gundersen received more than 100 rugs though the Mugs for Rugs program.

The program aimed to reduce the potential for falls by seniors.

In April, local high school students worked with the fire department to make cat scratching posts from the rugs.

They’re available at the shelter located at 911 Critter Court in Onalaska while supplies last.
