Downtown La Crosse route set for Budweiser Clydesdales visit on June 28

Some of the world’s most famous horses are making a trip around La Crosse at the end of the month.
As part of the Big River Rally, the Budweiser Clydesdales make an appearance in La Crosse on June 28. They’ll be at the Oktoberfest grounds where the rally is located.
Part of their visit is taking part in a procession in the downtown area on Saturday afternoon.
So if you’d like to see them, here’s the route they’re taking:
Starting at 2 p.m., the eight horses and iconic beer wagon, complete with Dalmatian, leave the festgrounds and head south on 2nd Street.
They’ll turn and head west on Jay Street to Front Street and turns north. At Front and State, the hitch heads west again for a lap around the big eagle statue in Riverside Park.
Then it’s back out of the park and north on Front Street until the Clydesdales return to the festgrounds.
Some other fun facts about the Clydesdales:
- The first Clydesdales came from Scotland in the mid-1800s.
- Every Budweiser Clydesdale has to meet height and weight requirements-stand 72 inches tall at the shoulder when fully mature and weight between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds.
- Each one must be a gelding at least four years old.
- Every one has a bay coat, four white stocking feet, a white blaze, and a black mane and tail.
- Eat a lot — every day, each horse eats between 1-6 pounds of whole grains, minerals and vitamins, plus 50-60 pounds of hay along with 30 gallons of water.
You’ll have great opportunities to get pictures of the Clydesdales along the route and for a short time back at the festgrounds.
The Big River Rally happens June 27-28 at the Oktoberfest Grounds.
