DNR asking for public’s help Tank Creek bridge fire

The public’s help is needed with the Wisconsin DNR’s investigation into a fire that destroyed a bridge along a popular outdoor trail near Trempealeau last month.

A fire on May 15 destroyed the bridge over Tank Creek. It is one of 21 bridges on the Great River State Trail that runs between Onalaska and Trempealeau.

Given the location of the bridge, there isn’t a way to re-route users around the now-closed bridge.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation according to the DNR. That’s why they’re asking for assistance.

“Any information from the public will be welcomed,” said DNR Lt. Warden Chris Shea. “Even if the information seems too small to matter, it may be important to find the cause of the fire that destroyed the Tank Creek Bridge.”

The DNR asks the public to share any information with the DNR’s confidential Violation Hotline online or by calling 1-800-847-9367

Signs are posted at the trailheads on both ends to let people know about the bridge closure.
