DNR still seeking info in illegal elk shooting near Black River Falls

The investigation into the shooting of a bull elk in Jackson County in March is in need of more information.
The Wisconsin DNR asks for help finding whoever shot the elk north of Black River Falls on March 18.
They discovered the elk off of East Snow Creek Road on private land. At the time, the DNR was trying to capture a small group of elk to attach radio collars on them and relocate them.
A release from the DNR said the bull elk, known as #244, wore a GPS radio collar. That, and nearby trail cameras, gave investigators information on the shooting.
The release said the elk was one of the last ones from the initial herd from Kentucky in 2016.
#244 was one of the primary breeding bulls for what’s known as the Central Elk Herd.
Two rewards are available for information leading to the successful prosecution of the person involved.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has a $5,000 reward and the Wisconsin Buck and Bear Club offers a $500 reward.
To claim the reward, submit tips to Jackson County Crime Stoppers through the Jackson County Crime Stoppers webpage, P3tips.com or calling 1-800-228-3203 ext. 199. Individuals are able to remain anonymous.
The DNR asks the public to share any information – no matter how small it may seem – with the DNR’s confidential Violation Hotline online or by calling 1-800-847-9367.
