An Air Quality Advisory remains in effect until noon Thursday for parts of southern and eastern Wisconsin as smoke from Canadian wildfires continue to drift though the area.

Counties affected by the advisory include Crawford and Grant.

The advisory also covers the corner of northeastern Iowa including Allamakee and Winneshiek counties. Iowa’s Air Quality Alert expires at 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Wisconsin’s DNR extended the advisory for another day as the smoke continues slowly starts to push eastward.

Anyone who suffers from heart or lung disease or asthma, along with young children and older adults are urged to limit time outside. Recommendations are to limit lengthy or heavy exertion and go indoors if they feel any negative symptoms.

Air quality should start to improve in our area later on Wednesday according to the DNR.

About 1.5 million acres have burned so far this year in Canada according to natural resources officials there.

Smoke from the fires was even reported as far away as Europe, one climatology agency said.
