As I See It, It’s hard to find a judge everybody will like

As I See It

Politics can take weird turns sometimes…for example, when it comes to hiring judges. Voters in La Crosse recently cast ballots for a new Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, and a new La Crosse County circuit judge. As for federal judges, they generally get appointed, by the president, and for years the Federalist Society has worked hard to get conservatives on the Supreme Court and other high courts, recommending candidate names to the White House.

So, a three-judge panel just ruled against President Trump’s tariff plan, and Mister Trump didn’t take it well. Did he say, maybe I made a mistake in appointing some of those judges? No, because Trump has said he doesn’t make mistakes. So somebody had to take the blame for that court ruling, and the president went after Leonard Leo, the boss of the Federalist Society. Calling him a sleazebag, and a bad person who suggested bad candidates. And we’re told Trump won’t take suggestions from the Federalists any more. I doubt that Mr. Leo plans to stop suggesting names of people he wants on the bench. Where will the president find the new judges? Will they appoint judges from reality TV shows? Or maybe let people like us vote on those judges? The jury may be out a long time on this question.

I’m tired of the concept of conservative and liberal justices. What we need is constitutional judges, that are unbiased and able to make just decisions apart from their personal feelings and beliefs. The U.S. Constitution is the greatest governmental document ever composed. It even has a process built into it to make changes to the document. Our Three branches of government need to get back to it and especially our Judicial branch needs to stop creating law. That is not their role.

I remember that President Eisenhower stated that appointing Earl Warren to the Supreme Court was the worst mistake of his presidency.
Trump is amoral and wants to do whatever he wants. The constitution, that he swore to uphold, his a royal pain the neck to him.
He truly does not understand nor does he care what the founding fathers created.

Nick I respectfully disagree. I see no indication that President Trump is amoral, nor do I see any indication that
    He is un-constitutional.

I do however see direct evidence of corruption within our court system, from SCOTUS on down. It Trump wants to provide a criticism to our high court, he ought to. Is it always value added, it is not. Our courts are political, we all know it, so have at it, want to be political, them be prepared for political blow back!

This opinion piece is intellectually dishonest, it is about far more than ‘I don’t like the judge’ ! We seem to elect judges based on their willingness to provide judicial trajectory we like.

So… It’s time to offer the Libertarian perspective. And if you are not already aware, the term libertarian is derived from the word liberty. We are constitutionalists and we are fearful of losing this country because of the so-called two-party system. Our founding fathers, I believe it was Thomas Jefferson, warned against forming political parties for the very reason that they become polarizing and consolidates power. That is why other voices like independence and Libertarians are ignored. The two-party “system“ leads to arguments against one party over the other with each side, trying to beat the daylights out of the other side. Instead of all citizens, having an equal voice and having what’s called the wisdom of crowds, it becomes one single faction against the other single faction. This is no way to run a country.

Back to the Libertarian perspective. Pointing fingers at one president or another.is fruitless, a nonstarter, a waste of time, and rewards those currently in power, which is to say the two parties. It’s not Trump‘s fault or the fault of any previous recent president. It is the Congress that is abdicating its responsibility. Presidents of both parties c
usurp more and more power they do not have. And Congress lets them get away with it. Trump’s tariffs qualify. I would also point out the multiple war “engagements” initiated by past presidents also qyalify just a name two examples. Only Congress can declare war ala the war powers act. Yet every president has taken the nation into war numerous times without such a declaration. Vietnam, Korea, Kosovo, Grenada, Iraq twice, and Afghanistan. Point fingers all you want at a president from either party. This is actually pretty scary stuff because one man be the Democrat or Republican seems to be in control of it all these days. We have separation of powers in the constitution for a reason. It’s time for the Congress to exercise that power to control presidents of either party.

Elon Musk has just discovered he cannot control the president. That is the reason for the current rift between Musk and Trump. To be clear, I supported Trump last November over the libertarian candidate because the alternative (Kamala) would have been an abject, greater disaster. Unfortunately, and once again, Trump disappoints. He signed a huge spending bill during his first term and now, during this second term, he is poised to do it again spending even more instead of codifying a balanced budget and instead of telling the House of Representatives, we’re spending originates, to do better. And so it goes. The country marches towards greater and greater likelihood of bankruptcy, and we received a second credit downgrade as occurred during the Obama administration.
