As I See It
The price to pay for Prairie Springs Phase II

To continue what I began yesterday, some more thoughts on the Prairie Springs Phase II science building for the UW-La Crosse campus.
I didn’t get to touch on the money involved here. On the university website, it says the cost of Phase II of the project is nearly $93 million.
Back in 2018, when Phase I opened, the projected cost of Phase II was about $10 million lower.
As we all know, prices aren’t going down anytime soon.
I believe the bottom line is this: The current building, Cowley Hall, needs replacement so students can use the latest technology and educate themselves properly on advances in science.
Delaying this second phase is ultimately going to cost taxpayers, me included, increasingly more money.
At a time when budgets are slashed and people cut to save money, why are there delays in getting the project done?
Kicking the can down the road sounds good now, but at what cost?
Cowley Hall will eventually get torn down and replaced but it will cost how many millions more that could have been better spent on say, some state highways that run through the city?
That’s just my two cents on the matter.
