The La Crosse School District has a new high school principal starting in July.

In a news release on Tuesday morning, the district said that Luke Madsen is taking on the role at the north side school.

He’s replacing Wally Gnewikow who is leaving to become superintendent of the La Crescent-Hokah School District.

According to the release, Madsen brings more than 25 years of educational experience to Logan. He’s held similar positions in both the Winona, Minnesota and Black River Falls, Wisconsin school district.

Prior to moving into administration, Madsen taught Spanish and Physical Education.

“Luke is a thoughtful, student-focused leader who works to make sure every learner feels supported and valued,” said Superintendent Dr. Aaron Engel said in the statement. “He has a proven track record of building strong school cultures where all students feel seen, supported, and challenged to grow.”

“My goal is to create a space where every student feels like they belong and can be their authentic self,” Madsen stated. “I believe schools should be places of growth, connection, and opportunity. I’m excited to work with the Logan community to build on all the great things already happening there.”

Madsen officially starts at Logan on July 1.

Any wonder “Johnny” can’t read and the world is kicking out butts on test scores. The new principles goal is a school that promotes a place of growth, connection and belonging . No mention of learning anything .

I fear a drop in benchmark testing scores, and raw intelligence is coming on. I am anticipating a rise in the genius of ‘feelings’. I anticipate a new wave of man-buns. No worries though, our board of ed and mayor are no doubt in alignment creating those safe spaces that intellect needs to survive and thrive.

I don’t know the man so this is just a subjective viewpoint extracted from the context of a ‘feel good’ article.
