Grateful for the fire department

As I See It

I got to see the members of the La Crosse Fire Department in action the other day and I have to say I’m impressed.

While usually they’re having to deal with a house fire or car accident, having to fight a fire in the marsh isn’t something that happens a lot.

Add in the strong winds that pushed the fire around on Friday didn’t help the situation either.

But they fought against the fire, first with water strapped to some of their backs then with hoses, and they got it out after several hours of hard work.

Add to that the fact that they had to deal with a fire in an apartment building off of Cass Street at the same time. Everyone got out safe and their efforts kept the fire contained to one room in an apartment.

At a time when the word government seems like a four letter word to some, it’s good to see the city provides the fire department with the tools and training to keep us safe.
