The Brownsville resident suspected of stabbing his father during a fight last week in Hokah will be tested for competency. That ruling came at a Houston County court hearing on Tuesday for Nicholas McCabe, who’s charged with attempted murder.

Hokah Police Chief Kaylee Inglett saw the attack happen outside the McCabe family roofing business on May 12th. Victim Daniel McCabe received several stab wounds, including in the face and neck.

The competency evaluation for Nicholas McCabe could take up to two months to complete, so he is not expected back in court until July.

At a previous hearing, Judge Carmaine Sturino approved a public defender for the younger McCabe, and ordered him not to contact his father directly or indirectly, or possess dangerous weapons.
