La Crosse Police continue their search for a man accused of shooting a woman in the head during a fight last week.

A criminal complaint filed against Diontae Booth lists several charges, the most serious of which is attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

The complaint said that Booth and the victim, a 20-year-old woman, used to date. She broke it off in January.

At some point while they were seeing each other, he’d hidden a handgun at her aunt’s residence. She found the weapon and hid it in another place.

On May 15, he came to the apartment upset that he couldn’t find the handgun. He threatened to beat up the victim’s 14-year-old cousin before the victim agreed to get the gun.

Once she gave it to him, he began to hit her. She fought back. At one point, the complaint said she told police,

“He stood over her and pointed the gun at her head. She stated the next thing she knew, she heard a loud ringing in her ears and everything went dark.

(The victim) came to and stood up. She immediately felt something warm running down her face. She realized it was blood and that she had most likely been shot in the face.”

Police continue to look for Booth, who hasn’t been seen since the shooting.

The department asks that anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them or any law enforcement agency.
