La Crosse Mayor Shaundel-Washington-Spivey in the WIZM studio for La Crosse Talk on May 15, 2025.

La Crosse’s first-ever hyphenated Mayor, Shaundel Washington-Spivey, in the WIZM studio a month after winning the election.

The new mayor talks city administrator, as the council put off hiring that position again — this time until February. We also discuss his first month in office, and the bit of chaos that happens in the two-week period before taking over.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

Another thing Washington-Spivey discussed was a more general idea of branding La Crosse, beyond just its natural beauty, and bringing different entities throughout the region together to help promote the area in multiple ways.

But the biggest part of the conversation was, of course, the potential hiring of a city administrator.
