Jury selection, witness list among concerns as Dikeman trial for child abuse death approaches in La Crosse

Attorneys in the Josie Dikeman homicide case are making preparations for a trial scheduled this summer in La Crosse.
Dikeman is charged with 1st degree murder and physical abuse of a child in the death of a 6-year-old boy who was in her care. She was charged two years ago this month, and a trial set for August could last up to three weeks.

A list of witnesses for the trial could be filed with Judge Elliott Levine soon, and questionnaires for potential jury members is being prepared. Lawyers for both sides met with the judge on Friday, and Levine is scheduled to hear motions during a hearing set for June 19th.
Dikeman is accused of neglect in the 2023 death of the boy, Alexavier Pedrin, who was the son of her boyfriend. Judge Levine says steps may be taken during the trial to restrict demonstrations inside and outside of the courthouse. There was picketing near the courthouse during some previous court appearances by Dikeman, and some courtroom spectators have worn T-shirts bearing the child’s name.
