UPDATE: Tornado Watch canceled for area

NEW: The severe weather moved quickly through the Coulee Region this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has canceled the Tornado Watch that was in effect for parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

There were reports of tornadoes in Wisconsin.

One was confirmed by law enforcement near Loyal in Clark County.

Three reports to the NWS were in the area between River Falls and New Richmond.

Large hail was also reported.

In Alma Center in Jackson County, 1.75 inch hail fell.

A number of places in the path of the storm front had hail anywhere from three-quarters of an inch to 1.5 inches in diameter.


The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for a portion of western Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota Thursday evening until 8 p.m.

Counties in the watch area include La Crosse, Monroe, Jackson, Trempealeau, Buffalo in Wisconsin.

For southeastern Minnesota, two of the counties under the watch are Winona and Wabasha.

Information from the NWS said that as storms move east along the Mississippi River an into western Wisconsin, the storms will increase in intensity.

A single line of storms is expected to quickly pass through the area, however.

Primary threats are large hail and potential tornadoes. Damaging winds are possible as well.

The NWS service urges people to stay weather aware and take shelter if storms approach.
