Man arrested on attempted murder charge after fight in Hokah

A Houston County man is accused of attempted murder and assault, after an alleged scissors attack on his father at the family business in Hokah.
Bond for 24-year-old Nicholas McCabe has been set at $500,000 without conditions, and $250,000 with conditions. He is accused of second-degree murder and two counts of assault. Police say McCabe repeatedly stabbed his father, Daniel McCabe, with scissors during a fight Monday morning, which was witnessed by Hokah Police Chief Kaylee Inglett.
The criminal complaint said that Inglett was escorting students to nearby St. Peter’s Catholic School when she saw the attack. She had to take the students to the school, told them to lock the school down, then went back to the scene.
She and another officer had to use a taser to subdue McCabe.
His father later told Chief Inglett that McCabe is bipolar and hadn’t been taking his medication.
In court, Prosecutor Suzanne Bublitz says the victim had multiple stab wounds to the face, neck, and other locations, and has a collapsed lung. Judge Carmaine Sturino approved a public defender for Nicholas McCabe and has ordered him not to contact his father directly or indirectly. Nicholas is not allowed to return home and is not allowed to have dangerous weapons. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 20 at 10 a.m.
