A collision between a rural mail carrier’s vehicle and a pickup truck doesn’t injure both drivers, but leaves their vehicles damaged.

It happened late Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m. according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, on Oneida Road in rural Cashton.

They said Wayne Kruizenga, 64, of rural Viroqua, was heading down the road when he looked out his pickup’s passenger window to waive at a farmer from the Amish community. When he looked back, he saw a Jeep driven by Duane W Meyer, 47, or Holmen. Meyer had just finished dropping off mail and was pulling away from the mailbox.

Kruizenga braked and steered left. Meyer accelerated and went right. Despite their efforts, the pickup hit the left rear of Meyer’s Jeep.

The sheriff’s office said both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time.

They both refused treatment after getting checked by first responders.

La Farge Area Ambulance and Cashton Fire & Rescue assisted the sheriff’s office at the crash scene.
