We learn about GROW La Crosse with Bonnie Martin and Amy Sherrill in the WIZM studio, along with hyping up their upcoming “Plant Sale & More” event happening Thursday-Saturday.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

GROW La Crosse is a nonprofit that works with area schools, runs seven school gardens and teaches kids about all things plants. Well, maybe not all things, but gets them started on a life of growing.

Their Plant Sale & More will happen at Western Technical College’s Horticulture Education Center (map), where GROW is located.

Each day will feature a different event (building hanging baskets, Mother’s Day gift building, square-foot garden workshop), alongside the plant sale itself, where people can expect to find:

  • Vegetable starters
  • Flower starters
  • Herbs
  • Succulents

Looks like “No Mo May” is history. Thank goodness. Maybe La Crosse will look presentable this year without shaggy, dandelion scruffy yards with a sign in it proclaiming the virtue signaling of the resident.

I notice the dandelions are terrible this year, presumably from 2 years of NMM spreading weed seeds all over town.

We need our pollinators. They are more important than looks. Our lives depend on them.

We were plenty healthy for years, happily mowing our lawns, until you tree huggers invented yet another phony crisis. Get the knots out of your undies. And quit patting yourself on the back for a worthless effort.

‘No Mow May’ doesn’t mean you can’t weed your lawn in May! In fact, it’s easier to see the dandelions and remove the plants, root and all, when they stand up in the grass rather than being cut down by a mower. Enjoy the sun and exercise of weeding.

I remember 2 years ago during the first week of June when the “No Mow May” crowd finally cut their lawns and the foot-tall grass clippings clogged up the storm sewers after a heavy rain. Streets all over La Crosse were flooded. Mayor Reynolds, with an eye on the tree huggers, blamed the flooding on climate change. Responsible homeowners take care of their property and don’t try to inflict their wacko political ideas on neighbors. Yards full of seeding dandelions and other weeds are a public nuisance and make the whole town look like Hell.
