The deaths of two people found in a river near Tomah are being investigated by Monroe County authorities.

The sheriff’s office says the bodies were discovered Sunday in the East Fork Lemonweir River in Wyeville, east of Tomah. Investigators received a call from a person saying they had found a body in the water, while searching for two people who had not been seen since the previous night. The two reportedly had left the Backwater Bar and Grill the night before. There is no indication of foul play. The Ft. McCoy Water Rescue unit, Tomah Rescue Techs, and the Oakdale Fire Department assisted in the search of the waterway behind the bar.

The sheriff’s department and the Monroe County medical examiners office are continuing to investigate.
