As I See It
In the company of heroes

I had the privilege of flying to Washington on Saturday with the latest Freedom Honor Flight.
This is the third time I’ve been able to go as a member of the media.
While each trip is special, I have to say this one was the best one I’ve ever been on due to the veterans and the people I met that day.
From the time everyone arrived at the hangar to the time the plane returned to La Crosse, those veterans saw signs of gratitude everywhere they went that were heartfelt and genuine.
And if you need a lesson in humility, talk to a vet who has taken the honor flight. Nearly everyone I spoke to said that they had to get talked into going. There was always someone else more deserving, they almost always said.
After a day of touring the memorials, making new friends, and sharing their experiences, those same veterans were so grateful and appreciative of what was done for them on Saturday is something that will remain special for them for the rest of their lives.
Thank you to all the members of the Freedom Honor Flight, the volunteers, family, friends, and many others who helped say “Welcome Home.”
As I see it, I’m Kevin Millard
