Olivia Moths and Sarah Staff in the WIZM studio for La Crosse Talk to preview this year’s 20th annual Steppin’ Out in Pink event.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

Steppin’ Out In Pink supports breast cancer research and patient support programs at Gundersen’s Norma J. Vinger Center for Breast Care.

Motes is the Philanthropy Program Coordinator at Gundersen Medical Foundation in La Crosse. She talks about how all the money raised stays local, what 20 years of doing this means and some of the history.

While the event isn’t until Sept. 13, early registration opened this week.

Steppin’ raised a record $443,000 last year with 4,000 people registered, so Moths said the goal this year is $500,000.

The most ever to participate was 6,500 and Steppin’ has raised over $7 million over its 19 years.

Moths also noted that a little unknown here is that there’s a cancer research lab on the UW-La Crosse campus, and we also talk about what they do there a bit.
