The bond for a La Crosse murder suspect has been lowered from $1 million to $100,000.

The attorney for Cody Alland of La Crosse argued for a reduced bond of around $10,000, during a court hearing on Friday, citing more than 50 letters of support for his client from the community.

Alland is charged with 1st degree homicide for the fatal shooting of Justin Betz last January, during an incident outside the Vogue bar on George Street. Judge Elliott Levine says the $100,000 bond for Alland is “reasonable,” considering the serious charge against him.

Defense attorney Chris Zachar said Alland is not able to post a million-dollar bond, and has not shown any intent to leave the area. During Friday’s hearing, Betz’s son Noah was seen on a video screen in court, observing the hearing and reacting to it. Noah Betz is serving prison time on multiple charges.

Another hearing for Cody Alland is scheduled for mid-June.

Another bond. Sick. This town will protest Van Orden not showing up for a town hall meeting but wont stand for a guy that got murdered and and the suspect getting away with it. Crooked judges. All the judges here should never be in a position to just let crime be ok to commit. This is why everone comes to Lacrosse. A slap on the wrist and out on a jiffy. Pathetic.
