The rising Mississippi River is expected to crest Friday afternoon in La Crosse at 8-and-a-half feet…well short of the city’s 12-foot flood stage.

The National Weather Service says the river has gone up a full foot since Monday afternoon. Forecasters expect the water level to drop slowly to 8 feet even by Monday.
