As I See It
Productive members of society

Last week, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr made a series of inaccurate comments about people who are on the autism spectrum. I’m not going to repeat them because they’re simply wrong in so many cases.
Perhaps before he spoke, he should have done some research where even a quick search on the internet where he’d find all kinds of information on individuals who have successful lives and successfully deal with the challenges associated with being on the autism spectrum.
To be certain, on one end there are people diagnosed with autism who do need full-time daily care. On the other end, there are those who don’t. And still more who fall in between.
So, to make a blanket statement that anyone who has autism won’t be a productive member of our society is hurtful and frustrating to those individuals and their families, and those who work to help them.
Secretary Kennedy should apologize and stop fueling misinformation and fear.

Apologize… from a set of weak men with very large egos…? In what reality are we living in

Nothing to apologize for. Kennedy was making the case that “many” individuals with autism are severly impacted and the statement was in the context of expressing how important the investigation into the causes of autism is. Kennedy did not use the word “anyone” as described above. Kennedy has made autism a priority for HHS.
Finding the cause of autism and its disturbing trend of occurance is something we can all get behind…except maybe WIZM looking for a political axe to grind.

“[Kennedy] should apologize and stop fueling misinformaton and fear.”
That coming from WIZM is pretty rich indeed,

Kennedy has pushed for years the stupid idea that autism is a result of vaccines. Science has clearly refuted r that. He should just shut up on this and many other issues.

Formulating an idea is the basis of science. It’s called a hypothesis. When one uses the scientific method, one can determine whether the idea was stupid or brilliant depending on the results of the experiment. We do not have the results Because the idea/Hypothesis is still being studied. Would you Care to wait for the results to determine if the hypothesis was stupid? Or do you want to draw conclusions before the data is in? Up to you.
