A late night fire on La Crosse’s north side damages a home on Caledonia Street.

Battalion Chief Matthew Buley said the call came in at 10:44 p.m. for 1444 Caledonia Street.

Heavy smoke was coming from the roof area as department crews arrived at the scene.

The home was vacant at the time although firefighters did an extensive search for anyone who might have been inside. No one was found.

Chief Buley said the home had heavy fire and smoke damage as the fire spread into walls, floors, and the ceilings.

In all, 7 trucks and 17 firefighters came to the scene.

A cause is still under investigation.
