A man reported missing from Monroe County in late January and who was the subject of a statewide Silver Alert has been found deceased.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice said early Friday evening that David Wolf, 76, was found dead. No specifics were given on where Wolf was found.

The Silver Alert was issued on January 21, a week after Wolf was last seen on Barrell Road in Sparta.

He’d been seen driving a 2008 Buick La Crosse.

The Department of Justice issues Silver Alerts for the following reasons:

  • The missing person is 60 years of age or older;
  • The missing person is believed to have Alzheimer’s, dementia, or another permanent cognitive impairment that poses a threat to the individual’s health and safety;
  • There is reasonable belief that the missing person’s disappearance is due to the individual’s impaired cognitive condition;
  • The Silver Alert request is made within 72 hours of the individual’s disappearance;
  • There is sufficient information available to disseminate to the public that could assist in locating the missing person.

Silver alerts fall into the same group of alerts such as AMBER Alerts, Missing Child Alerts, Green Alerts for missing veterans at risk, and Missing Endangered Person Alerts.
