Good Friday is marked by La Crosse area worshippers at Cathedral Mass

Catholics from the La Crosse area gathered during the noon hour Friday at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral, for a traditional mass recognizing the crucifixion of Jesus.

It was one of three cathedral services planned by the Diocese of La Crosse to mark the holy weekend, along with masses for Holy Thursday and Easter Sunday.

Bishop Gerard Battersby is presiding over his first Easter Week celebrations after being installed as leader of the La Crosse Diocese last May. During the Friday midday mass, the bishop spoke about the death of Jesus, which led to “shock” and “sorrow” among the early Christians.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.

    Good Friday is the only day of the year that there is no consecration, therefore it is a service, and not a mass. Thanks for a very positive Easter story. It really made my day. Happy Easter
