Kahya Fox in the WIZM studio for La Crosse Talk to preview Habitat for Humanity’s first-ever La Crosse Housing Week, as well as Conductor Wannabe Kelly Colgan talking Habitat For Heroes.

La Crosse Talk airs weekdays at 6-8 a.m. Listen on the WIZM app, online here, or on 92.3 FM / 1410 AM / 106.7 FM (north of Onalaska). Find all the podcasts here or subscribe to La Crosse Talk wherever you get your podcasts.

Fox, the executive director of Habitat For Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region, talks about what exactly Housing Week is, why La Crosse needs to have these conversations and how we can fix housing in the region. Housing Week runs April 28-May 3.

Along with that, Fox also discusses Neighbors’ Day, which happens April 26 — where volunteers spend the day helping over 200 elderly La Crosse residents do some spring clean up to their yards. Habitat is taking volunteers right up to that Saturday, but the sooner you sign up, the easier it is for Fox to plan.

As for Colgan, she is representing Habitat For Heroes in the Conductor Wannabe competition put on by the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra.

Colgan, the president of Colgan Air Service in La Crosse, talks about why this project that’s been going on since 2019 — building and fixing up houses for veterans — is so important to her, being her dad was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroics in the Vietnam War and how a lot of her family has served in the military.

Colgan is one of five groups taking part in the competition, where fans can vote by donating at least $2 — with half going to the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and the other half to each wannabe’s initiative. Voting goes through April 28 and the winner conducts the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra on May 3.
