Cameron Park selected as site for La Crosse dog park during the summer months

Downtown La Crosse will get a temporary dog park this summer. The city park board has approved Cameron Park as the site for a dog park from May through August this year.
Burns Park, near the Main Street Library, had been used for dog recreation since last fall. But Burns Park is now being prepared to host the weekly Farmers Market, which will begin the first week of May, with a possible extension after the summer.
Park director Jay Odegaard told the board that a temporary relocation to Cameron Park will be the best way to see if that site is popular with pet owners.
The board approved the Cameron Park plan by a vote of 8-to-1, with Jennifer Trost casting the only no vote after expressing concerns about the process for choosing the site.
In other action, the park board approved a plan for a Second Saturday Downtown Art Market, to be located at the end of Main Street where it meets 2nd Street. The market will be a daytime attraction on the second Saturdays of July, August, and September.

Poor Old Cameron Park. The derelicts hang out there all day. Now the dogs take over. Maybe a few German Shepherds running at full bore will solve the dopers hanging out.

Jaded much? It’s people like you in this town that are the REAL PROBLEM.

The City spent something like $700,000 a few years ago to rehab Burns Park only to give it over to vagrants and a “dog park.” Can we get our $700,000 back?
It will be interesting to see if the Farmers Market fairs any better at this location.
The City continues to provide prime real estate for purposes of vagrancy and dog parks.
