La Crosse’s William Garcia expected to seek Ben Wikler’s outgoing Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair

The leader of both the La Crosse County and 3rd Congressional District Democratic Party is reportedly is seeking a statewide position left open by Ben Wikler.

William Garcia is one of several likely candidates to run for chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, in which Wikler did not seek reelection.

Garcia is expected to meet with reporters in La Crosse on Monday afternoon to officially announce he’s seeking the position.

Wikler said last week that he will step down from his post in June, after leading the Wisconsin Democrats for six years.

He had recently campaigned to lead the Democratic National Committee.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
