A judge has denied a motion to drop charges against a 19-year-old La Crosse man in an attempted homicide case following a shooting in March.

Moran

The Jaysen Moran is accused of wounding a 17-year-old in the arm, during the shooting last month on Logan Street.

Moran’s attorney, David Pierce, argued in La Crosse County court Tuesday that a video from the crime scene showed his client throwing punches while at least one gunshot was being fired.

The attorney added that evidence does not point to Moran firing a gun during a confrontation involving seven people in two groups.

Prosecutor Susan Donskey said that although a BB gun was brought to the crime scene, someone had a real gun, and Moran is believed to be the person who carried it.

Judge Elliott Levine said there’s enough evidence in the criminal complaint to show probable cause that Moran committed a crime.

Moran remains in jail on a $50,000 cash bond, which was reduced from $100,000.

A hearing could happen later this week to decide whether Moran’s bond can be reduced further.
