Country Boom, Ho-Chunk plans for county farmland get review from La Crosse County Board

The idea of selling county land for a new Country Boom music festival venue in West Salem received a hearing before the La Crosse County Board.
At Monday’s board meeting, supervisors heard plans for developing a new site for the annual festival that started in 2018.
Approximately 300 new homes could be included in the Country Boom project, suggested for the former site of the county farm.
The Ho-Chunk Nation and the School District of West Salem also had their ideas for developing at least some of the 111 acres.
Those plans will be reviewed Wednesday by members of the county executive committee, which could vote on a recommendation to be sent to the full county board for possible public hearings.
Organizers of the Country Boom festival want to buy 85 acres to develop the concert venue and build about 300 homes nearby over a period of several years.
County supervisors have expressed concerns about whether concerts could disturb people living at the nearby Lakeview nursing home.

Signs of West Salem’s Insane Asylum roots resurface every once in a while.
But, these festivals can be a good thing. ‘Lakeview residents won’t hear a thing’ Sure.
Maybe if the residents turn off their hearing aids and add a little something to their happy meals for a few days.
