Iowa man jailed after two-state, four county 70+ mile chase

An Iowa man is currently in the Houston County Jail in Caledonia after leading authorities from two states on a lengthy chase on Wednesday.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that it began Wednesday when they got a call from the US Marshal’s Service about an active felony warrant for Tyler Pierce.
A short time later, deputies saw Pierce driving a car in Spring Grove.
When they tried to stop him, he rammed one of the squad cars and drove through a yard to get away.
For the next 72 miles, he led authorities down into Allamakee and Winneshiek counties in Iowa, then back up into Fillmore County. Multiple law enforcement agencies took part in the pursuit.
The sheriff’s office said Pierce was driving over 100 miles an hour trying to evade law enforcement.
They used stop sticks three times in order to deflate the tires on Pierce’s car.
Two tires on his car eventually went flat. Even after losing one tire, the criminal complaint against Pierce said he was driving on the rim at speeds of 115 miles an hour.
Near Preston on Highway 52, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office said Pierce sideswiped a semi he was trying to pass as well as a length of guardrail.
A short time later, the car finally came to a stop.
Pierce was arrested as he was trying to escape through the driver’s side window.

After a medical check, Pierce went to the Houston County Jail.
According to the criminal complaint filed against him, the pursuit lasted about 55 minutes and covered 72.4 miles.
Online records show he’s held on charges including fleeing and 2nd Degree Assault-Dangerous Weapon.
He remains in the Houston County Jail on a $75,000 cash bond with conditions, or $150,000 without.
Pierce returns to court on May 2.
