Fire Department called to La Crosse Post Office

Published

on

Members of the La Crosse Fire Department were called to the Post Office building at 425 State Street early Tuesday afternoon where belongings from unsheltered people had caught fire.

A cloud of smoke was visible to passersby briefly until the department was able to extinguish the fire.

The area where the fire occurred was on the outside of the State Street side of the building where members of the unsheltered had set up an encampment.

There was little if any damage done to the building itself.

No injuries were reported.

Traffic was blocked off on parts of 4th and State Streets around the post office as crews worked at the scene.

The department is looking into what led to the fire.
