19-year-old suspect in La Crosse shooting appears in court on attempted homicide charge

Bond is set at $100,000 cash for a 19-year-old La Crosse man accused of attempted homicide, in a shooting that occurred last Sunday on the city’s northside.

Jaysen Moran was arrested on Thursday by La Crosse Police for his role in the shooting in the Logan Street area that wounded one person. Police say the wounds weren’t life-threatening. Two other people, ages 13 and 16, were also taken into custody by police. All three are suspected of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide.

Moran appeared before Judge Todd Bjerke on Friday afternoon, and is scheduled to return on March 21st, when a criminal complaint will be filed. Prosecutors said during the court proceeding that the victim was a 17-year-old who was shot in the arm at close range. Judge Bjerke says the charge is serious, noting that people brought guns to the scene of the crime and juveniles were involved. Moran is ordered not to possess any weapons, including knives and firearms, while the case is in court.
