For the second time this election cycle, a La Crosse School Board candidate is dropping out of the race.

Kevin Hundt sent out a statement Thursday saying he has withdrawn from the race.

Hundt stated the school board needs three strong progressive candidates, and endorsed Merideth Garcia, Jeff Jackson and Molly Fuchs.

“Although we don’t agree on everything, these three candidates share my fundamental values, and I believe they will be open to listening to ideas about how La Crosse School District operations could improve,” Hundt added.

Hundt admitted, “I did not do a good enough job showing that I am a single-issue candidate,” being that issue is firing current La Crosse schools superintendent, Dr. Aaron Engel.

Hundt added that he still advocates for implementing free school meals paid for by a local referendum — since Republicans in Wisconsin and the federal governments aren’t pushing for that — standing up for transgender youth, and recognizing the impact the school district has on city infrastructure and budgeting.”

Heading into the primary, another candidate, Sam Morris, dropped out of the race, due to personal attacks directed at the Army veteran and his child.
