Onalaska names Barton as new school superintendent

The School District of Onalaska has a new superintendent.

At Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, Board President Ann Garrity announced that Ben Barton was selected from three candidates for the position.

The board vote was unanimous in favor of Barton.

He’s currently the Superintendent for Princeton Public Schools near the Twin Cities, although he has served as a school administrator in the La Crescent and Caledonia school districts.

Garrity said in the meeting Monday night that when she spoke to Barton about the job, who told her, “This is a dream come true.”

The board approved Barton’s contract to start on July 1.

Onalaska schools have just over 2,900 students as of last September according to the district’s website.
