Changes happening with WIZM lineup

WIZM News

Regular listeners to WIZM have heard the changes we’ve had happening here over the past few months.

Here’s an update.

We’re continuing to look for a new host for La Crosse Talk in the morning to take over for the legendary host Mike Hayes. It’s a task, as you can imagine, is not an easy role to fill.

In the interim, Rick Solem is going to host La Crosse Talk Monday through Friday.

Because of that, we’re pausing La Crosse Talk PM and provide educating and helpful financial advice from Dave Ramsey.

Rick will move back to afternoons once we get a new morning host.

You may also know that the very popular talk show host Dan Bongino is ending his show on March 14 to return to his law enforcement roots to become Deputy Director of the FBI.

To fill that void, we pleased to announce that starting on Monday, March 17, we’ll air The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show. They’ll bring their takes on the news of the day with intelligence and humor.

We hope you’ll give a listen to their show and enjoy what they, as well as everyone here at WIZM, has to offer during the day.

Kevin Millard is News Director for WIZM News. A West Salem native, he's spent most of his life, except for a year each in Florida and Wausau, here in the La Crosse area. Broadcasting and the media has been a part of his life since he was filmed in his first commercial in 2nd Grade. Most of his career has been spent working behind the scenes in the newsroom at a local television station. He's been the host of WKTY Outdoors since October 2005.

We think Andy Parish would be an excellent choice to replace the irreplaceable and legendary Mike Hayes. Oh, how I miss Mike. Please encourage Andy to consider the position and if Andy is interested, please hire him. My sense is Mike’s listeners are falling away and moving on.

Yes thanks for the update. By doing this we won’t have to listen to Rick’s replays of LAX talk pm (it was such a lazy way). We all hope to get someone that is unbiased and fair minded like Mike was. You knew which way he leaned politically but he ALWAYS defended everyone’s views no matter what.

The station could learn from that.

I hope you find a suitable replacement for the morning show soon. I’ve been a loyal listener since WIZM went to a talk forum. I remember the Talk Net days. Since Mike Hayes departure the local programming has gone down hill. Three hours in the morning with Mike flew by. Now it’s only two hours and I can’t wait for it to end. Rick Solem must be hard pressed to find content for 2 hours. He puts way too much emphasis on sports, drags out interviews way too long, monologues way too long about what is going to be on the program, plays already aired interviews, and most annoying, constantly interjects sophomoric humor that falls flat and bores his listeners. Get with it WIZM, I’m trying to stick with you, but you’re making it difficult.

Anybody but Rick Solem would be a improvement!

Mike definitely had a gift, and as my co-worker said, he earned the right to have some sass – but as someone wrote above, he always listened to both sides. I miss his style, his humor, and his daily advice. Hug your kids.
