Washington-Spivey gets endorsement from former mayor

La Crosse mayoral candidate Shaundel Washington-Spivey gets an endorsement from a former mayor.
John Medinger, who served from 1997-2005, gave his support to Washington-Spivey in an editorial in the La Crosse Tribune on March 6.
In the editorial, Medinger said that Washington-Spivey “is not just a person for the present time, but has a plan for a better future for all residents of this good city.”
In a statement on Monday, Washington-Spivey said, “I want to acknowledge that I would not be able to run the kind of campaign that I am running today if John Medinger had not paved the way. He was truly a mayor of the people and continues to be an incredible voice in the community. I hope to continue that legacy should I have the privilege of serving as the next Mayor of La Crosse.”
He’s taking on Chris Kahlow in the April 1 Spring Election.
Hear more from the candidates on Wednesday at a debate hosted by WIZM News, the League of Women Voters of the La Crosse area, the UW-La Crosse Political Science Department, and the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce.
The debate is at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12 at the Cleary and Friends Alumni Center on the UW-La Crosse campus.

If he gets endorsed by the current mayor, that’ll be the end of him. Getting endorsed by The Tribune used to be the kiss of death. These days, the Trib is busy trying to figure out who pulled the light socket.
