What’s a primary? It’ll decide La Crosse’s final two mayor candidates and more

As I See It

A very unknown, unpopular voting day today. Miserable weather. Really nothing on most people’s ballots.

Except city for La Crosse residents, who have two if not three giant races they’ll be voting on today.

It’s a primary, so the stakes aren’t through the roof but city voters will be deciding who will be on the April ballot for their mayor for the next four years, three La Crosse school board members for the next three years, and a city council race in District 7 — also for the next four years.

We deep dove with those candidates on our WIZM election page in all those races. There are also interviews with each of the candidates if you want to plug your headphones in and listen while at work. We even got a quick 7 minutes with each mayor candidate on Monday.

It shouldn’t be too difficult to be informed on those three races.

Beyond that, you will also see a state school superintendent primary on your ballot, cutting those candidates from three to two.

And if you don’t know what the state school superintendent does exactly, or or who those three are in the running, you’re not alone. But, also, plenty of info online to read about and see who you favor.

All this sets up an, ironically, April 1 election, where the ballot gets a lot more complicated. But let’s just stick with Tuesday for now.
