Due to the extremely cold weather forecasted for La Crosse, the city is opening its emergency daytime warning shelter Monday.

The Emergency Winter Weather Daytime Center is open from 8 a.m. until noon, although that may change according to the city’s news release.

The center is at the main hall of the downtown Public Library at 800 Main Street. The warming shelter entrance on the northeast side of the building.

When the center is open, it is staffed by people from both the city and county. There may be additional service providers, if available, to assist individuals in the shelter.

The city does have some requirements for people using the center.

When they arrive, people need to check their belongings. The city is providing a storage tote that they’ll keep in a safe, secure place.

People also need to sign in and out and pets aren’t allowed in the center.

People can access the library only when it is open.

The weather forecast from the National Weather Service for La Crosse predicts below zero overnight temperatures for much of the week with daytime highs in the single digits or low teens.
