The La Crosse County Board is scheduled to welcome a new member Monday night at its planning meeting, along with possible business with the Hillview Health Care Center and child care funding.

At its 6 p.m. meeting, the board will be asked to appoint Kristie Tweed to the 24th District seat recently vacated by Kevin Hoyer, who moved out of the Onalaska and Holmen area district.

Tweed was a candidate for supervisor in the last two county board elections.

If approved, she will be sworn in immediately, and will serve the remaining 14 months of Hoyer’s term, until the regular election in April of next year.

The county board agenda also includes a discussion of the $19 million remodeling project at the Hillview Health Care Center, which includes an expansion of the nursing area and some new residential space.

The county broke ground on the project in October.

Board members also may review the use of American Rescue Plan Act emergency funds on childcare programs.

The board meets at 6 p.m. at the county administrative building in downtown La Crosse.

Ms Tweed, the new supervisor “to be named” is Dem supervisor Steve Doyle’s former campaign manager. That should raise some eyebrows about independence and the judgement of those making these appointments. Surely, there are truly independent and qualified people who could do this job.

Apparently WIZM doesn’t think providing background on liberal politicians is important.

You know, I wish an adept reporter would count the number of non-profit employees we have representing us on the County Board and the La Crosse City Council with another pair now running for Mayor. Is there anything wrong with a non-profit employee running for office? No. Is there anything wrong with that field dominating local government? Certainly yes.
They live in a world of grants and government hand-outs, inflated resumes’ and exaggerated applications. And, of course, no mention of profits.
