WASHINGTON (AP) – Nineteen Democratic attorneys general have sued President Donald Trump to stop Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from accessing Treasury Department records that contain sensitive personal data such as Social Security and bank account numbers for millions of Americans.

The suit was filed Friday in federal court in New York City.

It alleges that the Trump administration allowed Musk’s team access to the Treasury Department’s central payment system in violation of federal law.

The payment system handles tax refunds, Social Security benefits, veterans’ benefits and more.

It sends out trillions of dollars every year while containing an expansive network of Americans’ personal and financial data.

Wisconsin and Minnesota are two of the states that are participating in the suit.

“Donald Trump has put the whims of Elon Musk ahead of Americans’ privacy and security,” said Attorney General Kaul. “We’ve gone to court to address this outrageous situation and to protect the American people.”

“Wisconsinites expect the federal government to treat their Social Security numbers, bank account information, and other sensitive personal details with the highest level of protection and confidentiality—and that obligation doesn’t go out the window just because Elon Musk says it should,” said Gov. Evers. “Giving political appointees access to our most personal information like this is illegal. That’s plain as day.”

Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont are rest of the states filing the suit.

Who in their heart honestly thinks the things DOGE identified so far are not corrupt? The dollars identified should be going to North Carolina or California disasters. We have people in our country that need help. Fund our own infrastructure. The department of education needs to be audited. Where are our dollars being spent? Education in the US is not producing brilliant minds anymore, follow the money and change the system. This independent appointed auditor is not looking for personal information. He didn’t have to be elected. Just like Tony Evers appointed staff. Kathy Blumfeld, Jared Hoy, Summer Strand,Kristen Johnson, etc….these people AREN’T elected. They were appointed to do a job, just like DOGE was APPOINTED

These lawsuits have nothing to do with confidentiality. Literally thousands of current Federal, State, County and City employees and government contractors already have access to this information. Every employer and insurance company in the country also has this information for current and past employees.

Medicare does not process Medicare claims; claims are processed by a third-party contractor!

This is about Dems protecting the gravey-train of grift and corruption. And yes, there are more than a few RINOs cheering them on.
