Sanctuary cities, like Milwaukee and Madison, about to get a reality check

Published

on

Well, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi hit the ground running on her first day of work at the Department of Justice. She’s halting all DOJ grants and funding to sanctuary cities, like Madison and Milwaukee.

I say it’s about time.

Why would anyone expect the DOJ to keep throwing cash at cities that are helping criminal aliens play hide-and-seek from federal law enforcement officials?

These sanctuary cities are about to get a harsh reality check and hashtag campaigns like #SanctuaryCityStrong and #NoHumanIsIllegal might earn them a participation trophy — but it will no longer earn them the cash they’ve come to rely on.

At the end of the day, the most important job of any jurisdiction is the safety and wellbeing of its citizens. It’s time these public officials grow up, follow the law and maybe, just maybe, put their constituency first.

As I see it, I’m Andy Parrish.

Interesting that none of the mayoral candidates in last night’s forum would agree to allow city resources to be used in conjunction with the federal mandate for deportation of illegal immigrants. I guess they all feel laws just don’t matter, or at least the ones they don’t agree with.

I believe, perhaps, the first candidate to answer that question, had a different viewpoint. -Rick

What a gross oversimplification of the issue at hand. Of course, any sane citizen would want illegal dangerous immigrants deported.

Did you know undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit ANY crime than a native-born US citizen? I’d rather see repeat native born criminals taken away than the immigrant that is trying to provide a better life for their families.

Up in the Arcadia area, it’s well known there has been undocumented immigrants working at Ashley and the chicken plants for DECADES… This is just now becoming a problem why…? Because it’s a giant smokescreen for the republican party to throw up while Elon and friends make it to become the first ‘Trillionaires’

Thank you for your comment. It illustrates the ignorance and stubbornness that has guided sanctuary city behavior for decades. Your ignorance for the fact that all undocumented aliens are criminals, contrary to your assertion that few are criminals. They violated federal law when they crossed our border anywhere besides a designated port of entry. Time does matter some, but if a different type of criminal, say murderer, goes unpunished for decades and you finally catch them, you just let them go? No, we need to prosecute criminals, especially those who skip the line and take advantage of the citizens of our country.

Seriously dude… Read my first comment, I’ll quote it directly for you: ‘Of course, any sane citizen would want illegal dangerous immigrants deported’

When did I ever say they shouldn’t be deported. I’m just adding some thoughts that make this not black or white. Stop assuming you think you know how I think.

Personally, I think anyone who recently came here illegally should be deported (GASP). I’m simply stating undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit ANY crime than a native-born US citizen WHICH IS TRUE.

The mayor of New York would disagree with your statement that native Lawrence’s commit more crimes. I heard it from his own mouth that 2/3 of the crime committed in New York is by illegal immigrants. That 66% of the crime! The crimes statistics are not fully collected. But he seemed to know what percentage of crimes were committed by illegal immigrants. The plan is right now to get all the criminals out. Then next all the people that are here have gone through the court system and we’re denied citizenship and needed to leave the country but have not that’s about 1,400,000. That’ll take some time. I doubt that anyone’s gonna bother somebody that works has been here for a long time, and has not committed crimes.

Thanks for your comment. Just to clarify, I did not call them dangerous—though some individuals certainly are a danger to society. The federal government is not asking local law enforcement to actively seek out undocumented immigrants. Rather, they request that local authorities notify federal agencies if they have detained someone who may be subject to removal and, in some cases, hold them for transfer, but these requests are not legally binding, and many jurisdictions simply will not honor the request.

To me thee most concerning cases involve criminals – who are arrested or detained and present a fake ID because they cannot legally obtain one. In my opinion that should be good enough to invesitage who the individual really is and notifify ICE, if they indeed are here illegally I see no reason why local law enforcemnt should not cooperate with a detainer request until that individual can be transfered to federal custody.

      What am I getting wrong?

If you watch the movie, Andy, you’ll notice that many, many Americans were cheering for Bonnie and Clyde. After the pair were gunned down, thousands attended their funeral. And how many thousands cheered on O.J. in the white Bronco in LA? Must be in our nature to not snitch.

Wake up Dylan, the world is a very big place. Bigger than Arcadia.
    Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.
Too many people including the media think the president is going to take every single undocumented worker and fly them out of the country. Many of those folks have green cards and want to work, provide for their families and do not commit crimes. But……… there are those who came here illegally with no plan and commit crimes. (Cartel members, Human trafficker’s and Career criminals) Yep hard to believe not everyone who crosses the border illegally is a saint. Over 8 million people have crossed with no background check. WTF? Try going to Canada or another country and just walk in with no Passport or ID.
We have laws in this country and most people if not all who live here like to have safe streets to walk and a safe environment to raise their children. How many people who cross illegally show up for their court date? Ask the poor people who live in Chicago how they feel about this issue. It has been in the news.
Migrants who pick crops and work in these factories do a good job.
Why is it so hard to ask the people who cross the border to register and possibly become citizens the right way? BTW, what the hell does Elon have to do with any of this?
Illegal is Illegal. I have no symphany for cities who do not follow the law and then then cry when their federal funding is cut.

Read my first comment a few times over… ‘Of course, any sane citizen would want illegal dangerous immigrants deported’

Stop assuming you can read my mind. I personally think undocumented immigrants that came here recently SHOULD be deported. I’m just providing some points as to why this isn’t black/white of which you directly mentioned.

Wouldn’t you classify the undocumented workers in Arcadia as ‘Migrants who pick crops and work in these factories do a good job.’ To quote you directly…

What does Elon has to do with this? Read my last comment and let me know if you have any questions.

Just because they do a good job does not mean they get a free pass if they are here illegally.
    To quote you:
Up in the Arcadia area, it’s well known there has been undocumented immigrants working at Ashley and the chicken plants for DECADES… This is just now becoming a problem why…?
    Do you remember this incident?
Ramirez was convicted of killing Gorectke, 23, whose battered body was found at the bottom of the steps of Christ Covenant Church, 3630 Hwy. B, shortly before Sunday morning services Jan. 21. At the time, Ramirez was living as an illegal alien in Onalaska, Wis.
I never said I could read your mind. Just pointing out facts for discussion, as you say.
So Elon has illegal immigrants building his rockets and he saves tons of money by using cheap labor?
    Breath…………………Don’t be so angry.

I was hoping for a more nuanced response from the candidates. We need immigrants since they do jobs nobody else wants to do.
If there is an immigrant that has committed crimes then the local authorities should keep them detained until ICE can pick them up.
Any elected official who impedes that should be arrested for obstruction of justice and has failed their primary duty: KEEP THE CITIZENS SAFE.
