Victim rescued from Rose Street house fire in late January dies from injuries

The person who was rescued from a house fire on Rose Street in late January has died.

The fire occurred in the 1700 block of Rose on the morning of January 24th. Firefighters rescued the homeowner and performed life-saving efforts, before the patient was taken to Gundersen.

The fire department says the unnamed victim later died from their injuries. Investigators still have not determined the cause of that fire.

In a news release, La Crosse Fire Chief Jeff Schott urges city residents to check their smoke alarms, update them if needed, and develop safety plans. Schott recommends that families practice escape drills at least twice a year.
