An Onalaska teenager arrested last week for an attempted armed robbery is pleading not guilty.

Seventeen-year-old Anthony Ulvestad is facing seven criminal charges, including attempted robbery and pointing a firearm at another person. Ulvestad is suspected of trying to rob a driver who was sitting in a vehicle on West Avenue.

Ulvestad could not get into the car, and the driver took off, with police finding Ulvestad in the area later. A request to reduce Ulvestad’s bond, set at $25,000 cash, was turned down. A revised complaint could be filed this week.

Police say Ulvestad attempted to steal the vehicle while wearing a ski mask, with gun in hand.

Officers arrived and said they “observed a suspicious vehicle.” When an officer tried to make contact with that vehicle, a passenger jumped out and ran. Police said they quickly found him on the 2100 block of 16th Street South.

Police noted Ulvestad likely tossed a loaded handgun onto the ground near where he was arrested.
