Which park is which? Leaders in Onalaska may consider new names for sound-alike city parks

If you visit city parks in Onalaska, do you get confused about where you’re going?

City staffers there are raising questions about having parks with similar sounding names, such as Oak Knoll, Oakwoods, and Oak Park. There are concerns that like-sounding park names could cause problems for public safety workers and emergency responders.

The Onalaska park board has an item about sound-alike park names on the agenda for its monthly meeting on Monday of next week. The main concern apparently is not about names that could be offensive, just confusing. The idea of name changes is just up for discussion, with no action being planned for now.
