Reiman talks housing, Kmart lot, parking and beautification in District 7 La Crosse city council race

John Reiman, a retired social studies teacher, in studio Monday for WIZM’s La Crosse Talk discussing his candidacy for the District 7 city council seat. During the interview, Reiman shared his thoughts on addressing the housing shortage, plans for the old Kmart lot, parking issues, and his vision for beautifying the city.

District 7 is the only council seat with a primary, which includes incumbent Mac Kiel and Gary Padesky. The primary voting period ends February 18.
After getting to know Reiman a bit to start the show, he then outlined his approach to tackling the city’s housing challenges, particularly how he envisions the development of the old Kmart site, now called Copper Rocks.
Reiman also expressed his deep affection for La Crosse, noting that while he has considered running for mayor in the past, he views this city council race as an important first step.
Other topics discussed included parking strategies, such as the proposal to charge for all street parking and the recent deregulation of off-street parking.
Lastly, Reiman highlighted his priority of enhancing the city’s aesthetics, including efforts to increase tree planting throughout La Crosse.
